Can the chin tuck exercise actually HURT you?

There are post every day of people doing chin tucks to ‘fix’ their forward head posture. However, how do you know if this is hurting you?

1. A reverse curve in the neck (cervical kyphosis), can cause the spinal cord to stretch and shear. Doing a chin tuck with a reverse curve can tear the spinal cord up! Worse part yet to come, our spinal cord doesn’t always feel what is happening. You can damage it daily for years with out knowing.

2. Excessive mid back rounding (upper cross syndrome) while doing chin tucks is pointless. Fix the rounding first then focus on the neck. Doctors who train in Chiropractic Biophysics are trained to work with these conditions by properly diagnosing them in the first place.

Posture is a sign of health. As you get older do you want to be hunched over and barely be able to function or upright and playing like you are one of the young ones. That is completely up to you! Take care of yourself so you can take care of others! The curve in the neck is also known to relate to headaches, blood flow to the brain, and spinal cord/brain health. If you have symptoms get checked out by a doctor trained in working with those conditions or schedule a visit at Peak Posture and Performance.
